EMMA KLAU - INSPIRED BY NATURE

Friday February 3 - Sunday March 18

Growing up in South Australia, Jam Factory Associate Emma Klau has been fortunate to have always been surrounded by incredible fauna and flora; from the Adelaide hills to the Flinders Rangers. During trips hiking and camping she has been inspired by a variety of natural forms from extravagant ferns and wild flowers to giant gum trees and dry bush lands.

Inspired by Nature utilises the organic nature of glass, using a combination of intricate and subtle techniques of colour application to capture the sometimes detailed and other times simple qualities of the unique shapes and forms of the organic. When Emma blows glass she also draws on the mediums organic nature as inspiration. ‘Its aliveness as it expands moves and drips around the pipe, bright and oozing with life.’

The glass forms in this exhibition reflect the constant wonderment Emma experiences when observing the beauty of the natural environment she grew up in.

STILL LIFE WORKSHOPS AT THE HAHNDORF ACADEMY MUSEUM:

Drawing workshops with Lauryn Arnott and Julia Wakefield during the Heysen Festival on Sunday October 9, 2011

In keeping with the historic celebration of the 2011 Nora Heysen Centenary Prize for Still Life, these workshops explored some radical approaches to drawing artefacts from the Hahndorf Academy Collection. Participants produced fascinating interpretations of objects, giving them a whole new meaning and a life model dressed in period costume provided an interesting composition alongside the objects resulting in some stunning work.
