Isobel Redmond became the member for Heysen in the State Parliament in 2002. At the 2010 election, the township of Hahndorf was finally included in the electorate of Heysen, which is named after renowned local artist Sir Hans Heysen.

Isobel held various shadow portfolios before becoming leader of the opposition in July 2009, a position which she held until stepping down on January 31, 2013.

Even prior to entering parliament Isobel had a strong interest in the Arts, both visual and performing, and held the Shadow Arts portfolio throughout her time as Leader.
